Expert Contact Lens Services
Before anything else, you should have a comprehensive eye exam for contact lenses. During this contact lens exam, Dr. Granek or Vocci will check your vision and determine a prescription for corrective lenses. This glasses prescription can be converted into a contact lens prescription as well. They will also check for any eye health problems or other issues that may cause problems with contact lens wear. Many additional measurements and evaluations are required in the contact lens fitting including corneal curvature, pupil size and tear film evaluation.
Our Doctors Are Experts in Fitting All Types of Contact Lenses, Including:
- Soft lenses – daily, 2-week, 1 month and extended wear
- Toric lenses (for astigmatism)
- Multifocal soft contact lenses
- Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses
- Multifocal RGP lenses
- Monovision contact lenses
- Colored Lenses to enhance or change eye color
- Keratoconus contact lenses (now including both Rigid and Soft) (these are often considered medically necessary and may be fully covered by insurance)
The Perfect Lenses For You
During your eye exam, Dr. Granek or Dr. Vocci will select a pair of trial contact lenses. We'll start by discussing your visual needs, lifestyles, and hobbies in order to select the best contact lens for you. We will make sure the lenses are the right fit for your eyes. We check how the contacts feel, how well you can see, and how the lenses move when you blink or look around. We will continue to try different options until we find the perfect lens for you.
Ongoing Support & Training
Once the right lenses are found, Dr. Granek or Dr. Vocci will write a contact lens prescription for you. This includes:
- The brand and name of the lens
The lens power (how strong the lens is)
The base curve (how curved the lens is)
The lens size (diameter)
If you’re getting rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses, the prescription will also include more detailed information.
Contact Lens Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a contact lens fitting?
A contact lens fitting is a specialized process conducted by an eye doctor to determine the appropriate contact lenses for your eyes. This process involves assessing the curvature of your cornea, the size of your pupil, and the overall condition of your eyes. The goal is to ensure a proper lens fit to achieve clear vision and maintain your eye health.
Why do I need a contact lens fitting?
You need a contact lens fitting to ensure that the contact lenses you choose are suitable for your eyes. An accurate contact lens prescription is essential for comfort and effective vision correction. A fitting will help determine the best type of contact lenses for your specific needs, including considerations for dry eye or astigmatism.
What can I expect during a contact lens fitting?
During a contact lens fitting, you can expect a thorough assessment of your eyes. This may include a comprehensive eye exam to evaluate your overall eye health, along with tests such as corneal topography and tear film evaluation. The optometrist will also measure the curvature of your cornea and may use trial lenses to assess comfort and fit.
What is the difference between a contact lens exam and fitting and a regular eye exam?
A contact lens exam and fitting is more specialized than a regular eye exam. While a standard eye exam focuses on overall vision and eye health, a contact lens fitting specifically assesses how well contact lenses will fit your eyes. It includes additional measurements and evaluations to ensure that the lenses will provide optimal comfort and vision.
